OS X Mavericks :: IMac 10.9 Recovery Disk Will Not Start?
Jun 1, 2014
I am having boot up problems on my imac 27-inch. I pressed the power button and press and held the Option key, I chose the Recovery disk, but the Recovery disk did not start, instead I have the grey Apple logo and it keeps running but will not start. The imac 27-inch was bought refurbished in late 2010. I also have imac apple care from 2010 never used. First time problem. On pressing the Option key during startup, Mach Hard disk and Recovery Disk 10.9 is displayed. Choosing mac hard disk does not boot up the OS instead I get a big Zero sign with line through it or a big flash question mark sign. Choosing the Recovery Disk 10.9 does not boot up Disk Utility, instead I get the grey Apple logo. Info: iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9), mac hard disk and Recovery 10.9disk
OS X Mavericks :: MacBook Pro Only Turns On In Recovery - Disk Utility Can't Repair Disk
Sep 12, 2014
Macbook Pro running on OSX Mavericks is having problems. Today I turned my Mac on, and it started up with a loading wheel and a loading bar. When the loading bar finished, the Mac turned itself off. I tried many times, same happened every time. I then went into OSX Recovery, started repairing Macintosh HD, but the error message saying 'Disk Utility can't repair Macintosh HD' came up and now I don't now what to do. Is there any way I can back up my files in this situation? Is there any way I can repair the disk without having to erase all data and reinstalling OSX? Or do I really need to bring it to a Apple Store for repair? Info: MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Power Mac G5 :: Using Disk - Utility Verify Disk Fails
Mar 18, 2009
Having a major issue: similar symptoms to others in the forum - with the fan and the computer not getting past the grey apple screen, I booted from the install disk and got to disk utility, at first all options were greyed out and I could not do anything, tried again a few times and finally got to the point where I could run the verify utility, never given the option to repair. When running the utility it failed and said I needed to repair by booting from the install disk and running the disk utility? Going around in circle here - any advice? I am currently running the Apple Hardware test to see if that shows anything..it has been a workhorse and I've NEVER had any issues with it. I would be interested to know if updating, for example, Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3, or 10.7.3 to 10.7.4, also updates the System on the Lion Recovery Disk. OS X V10.7 Lion :: Recovery Disk Assistant Won't Run?
Jun 22, 2012
I have a MBP mid-2010, originally with Snow Leopard, but long since running Lion (currently the latest release, 10.7.4). When I installed Lion, I created a recovery partition on the MBP's boot disk. This was about 9 months ago. I now want to run Recovery Disk Assistant to create a recovery partition on an external disk, but when I start Recovery Disk Assistant it says: 'Lion recovery could not be created'.. because the recovery HD on this computer is damaged or not present..etc. However, if I open a Terminal and run 'Diskutil list', I see: [Code].. So, the recovery partition appears to be there. I presume Recovery Disk Assistant thinks it's damanged. However, I can hold down Alt/Option when booting my MBP and I see the recovery partition. I can even boot from the recovery partition and everything works as expected. Info: MacBook Pro, mid-2010 MBP running Mac OS 10.7.4

OS X :: Hard Disk Drive Data Recovery
Jul 18, 2009
first off, long time MacRumors reader, finally joined the forum now in search of some aid. There are some other threads on a similar topic I know, but I was hoping for some So, the Hard drive in question is a Western Digital 5400rpm 320gig purchased from Amazon about 8 months ago, now the Hard drive has decided to die. https://renewchicks525.weebly.com/samsung-new-pc-studio-mac-download.html. I saw some early signs, but did not realise that the drive was in that bad of a condition at the time. Now, when attempting to boot into Mac OS X I get stuck at the Apple logo, with the little wheel spinning infinitely. I had a boot camp partition which worked, but could not help me and is no longer an option either. I tried using the Leopard boot disk, but Disk utility didnt do anything for me in terms of recovery or repair, I attempted to use the terminal to make an Image of the drive on an external, but it fails about 10% through, I'm assuming from corrupted data.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: ICloud Locked - Mac Restarts From Recovery Disk?
Apr 10, 2012
before a week ago i locked my macbook pro from icloud. something bud happened. my mac reboots and starts from recovery disk. the only think came to my mind is to install snow leopard from my installation disk(came with laptop) and then install lion.this is something i have done before and works ok.when snow leopard had succefully install i open app store and download my allready purchace mac os lion. when dowload finished i install it and nothing went ok. it puts me again to the recovery page and says re-install lion or online help etc. the only think that i could do is to delete recovery hd and install lion.when i did this it works but my software doesn't work right and find my mac not works. i create again by myshelf a recovery hd drive and when i restart the laptop it opens from there not from os lion. so i open the terminal using my snow leopard disk and delete the recovery hd again. MacBook Pro :: Can Use Disk Utility Recovery To Clone Original Hdd To A New One
Apr 16, 2012
My original hdd refuses to boot up, and using disk utility via recovery mode to try and fix it just gives me an error 'disk utility stopped repairing the drive, salvage data and format etc.' giving an error about invalid node structure or something. Tried using target disk mode with a friend's mac when I was at work but the drive didn't even want to mount. Assuming it's about to die, I have just bought a new hdd (XT Hybrid) and since my mac is pre-Lion era (2010 model) I don't have a built in recovery mode, but strangely enough hooking up my old hdd with a dock and option-booting to it I can still access the recovery HD partition on it. So I was thinking if i can essentially 'clone' my original hdd to the new one using the restore tab on disk utility, and try using disk repair on it to get it working? or is there another app I can use that will do this (being mindful that I don't have access to another mac or the OS on the HDD to run it, so it'll have to be 'live', and preferably free) Or should I just cut my losses and just put a fresh install on it.. Yes I do have a time machine backup, but there's two reasons I want to see if this works - one is that although time machine is quite up to date (within a week I'm guessing, can't remember), it's obviously won't have the new content created during the day(s) before I was able to plug in my external hdd, and secondly since I don't have access to another mac to create a lion install usb drive, I'll have to use the internet recovery, and knowing my internet connection, 4gb download would take probably overnight and nearly a whole day to finish (assuming it doesn't drop out). Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Stop Recovery Disk Assistant From Downloading
Apr 22, 2012
Since I planned to upgrade the stock disk on my macbook pro I created a USB stick backup of the Lion OS using Lion recovery disk assistant. It built a bootable copy of my Lion OS. I replaced the drive, booted from the USB stick Lion, formatted the new drive with disk utility with one OSX partition, and bunch of Linux partitions for the planned dual/triple/etc. boot. I then used the recovery disk menu to reinstall OSX on the new disk. It took off and started the download just like while booting with R key or from the recovery partition AGAIN!. This is a 2 hour proposition and is totally ridiculous. I need to be able to reinstall without downloading Lion every time. how to stop this new Apple invention from doing this download? May 17, 2012
I have university work I need to complete tomorrow. Machine is a 13' MacBook Pro with Bootcamp and windows 7 installed but the problem is on the Mac partition sequence of events:-I was using MS Word for Mac when it crashed as being unable to write to the disk.I went to utilities and ran a verify permissions - failures were found - one marked as not repairable I ran repair permissions - it repaired all but one I ran verify disk - it said it there was an error which could not be repaired - reformat the drive a restore from backup I have full time machine backup so thought no problem I shut down the machine and restarted using Cmd R and went to disk utilities - no 'format disk' option.Browse on internet finds I have to delete the 'Macintosh HD' partition - re- create it and restore - ok Find I cannot delete the partition because it cannot unmount the drive - because I have booted from the recovery partition which is on that drive - catch 22 Try to boot from original Snow Leopard disk - LION wont let you do it Read some more on Internet and find I can boot from the Lion Revovery HD on a USB Only way of getting it is to download it or create it using the machine I want to recover - but that machine won't boot in OS X ?..Tried the Lion Internet install but it simply fails with an ' error occurred please try again.how I can get a recovery USB written in order to externally boot my Mac and recover it ? MacBook Pro :: Inserted Windows 7 Recovery Disk - Now Can't Access OS
May 23, 2012
I wanted to install Windows 7 to my Macbook Pro Lion using Bootcamp. I opened Bootcamp Assistant, it told me first to make a partition, then to insert a disk. I tought what if i insert recovery disk of Win7 that left from another computer. So I inserted it and it told me to install Win7 and there was no exit button or anything like that. I switched computer off then on again and it again started Win. disk and it wont eject ether. Then with some miracle I ejected it, restarted and it gave me black screen with 'no bootable device, please insert disk and press any button'. I thought it wont leave me till I install it, so I inserted the disk again, and tryed to install it. During the installation it asks me where it should be installed, I chouse disk marked as bootcamp, also I had to format it because it was in fornat (something three letters) and it needed to be in format (something four letters). Then Windows installed, it is also not registered (only 3 days) and I can access Mac OS, when restart - it starts like Windows. There is no drivers for anithing, I cant connect to the internet even.
